how much does everyone pay roughly ?
how much would you pay to have a website done for you ?
My Items - No Items Listed
What are you trying to do?
Me.... unless it was something very specialised I wouldn't pay anyone. I'd go search for a hosting company with templates I liked and do my own.
Or - buy a big book and learn myself
Assuming you have the time.
Having said that - I'm in the middle of doing one for someone here which is being paid for - but not cash. It's for an artist who I met when I went to buy a painting. She said I could have the painting if I did her a site - value is around £500 - so I think I'm the one getting a good deal I have told her that, but she's happy with it.
i got asked to do one for someone - the spec was "to allow people to register online" and "take payments online" for a company hosting parties at a local bar
the person thought my price was a bit high so i'm just gathering opinions from people as to what they have/would pay so i can see if my price was too high or not
Aah the other way round then. To be honest I have no idea - as I'm probably like you in that people ask and I have no idea what it should cost.
That's why the painting was a good way out - I'd have had no idea how to price it myself!
Why not have a google and see what web design companies would charge? And then go a bit cheaper (or not depending on how you rate your skills. That's not supposed to sound rude. I don't rate my skills at all - I just meddle around till it works (probably shouldn't admit that!)

Blimey...lol
Does it cost that much??
i usually do what i can myself..then learn to do the rest.
but i would pay..Honestly..upto £500.00.
From what people have put here and a couple of other people I've talked to then it seems my price was about right, if not too little .... it came to under 350 for domain name, hosting, my time/work n an extension program the person would need ... that was just to set it up
I'm starting to feel better about it now, I was thinking was I doing the right thing and was I charging a fair price,
I paid £40 approx for a Serif package which includes 1year free hoasting. The package is a templete type and I produced a site in 3 weeks. My ste now supports romancart which allows me to take paypay, goggle, and nochex payments. The site now has over 100 products and gitting bigger each week. I am able to change what I like when I like, before this I had a site that cost £200 and it was bad but a friend has just paid £8000 for the complete package including backend support.
The question is what site are you after and how much do you want to pay.

Those fees are about the same as my host charges
I would have to go for the large business site then as I looked at the sites for small businesses
and they dont do what I want them too.
My brother quoted me around £3000 for a bespoke site and that was a few years ago
I want one like the large mail order catalogue companies have - where customers can use lots of drop down menues for choices of colour, size etc
I wouldnt be able to get one of those for a few hundred quid
there are 10 types of peeps on this forum - those who understand binary and those who don't
items available
zen cart - free...... drop down menus abound where ever you like
Indigo-Island:zen cart - free...... drop down menus abound where ever you like
Thanks - I dont have time to mess about with shopping carts
been there - done that
I want to pay someone else to do all the stuff I dont have time for as I can only work part-time.
I doubt if the guys who own Woolworths do all the work on their website themselves
I think they might be paying someone else to do it.
I've also seen lengthy on-going discussions about shopping carts on techy forums and the posters seem to spend most of their times working on their sites and trying to get their carts to work properly
books:Hey, if you get a shopping cart set up, I'll quite happily let you pay me to do all the listing and entries for it !!!
One day when I'm rich!!
Also I have noooo idea what I will be selling - too many choices out there!
Books I think your price seems ok if not a little on the cheap side when I was looking for a website on a well known business site I was quoted anything fromm £9,000 down to £400, but decided not to go with anybody who quoted me on that site because of the covert way most tried to approach me .
I actually went for Joomla because of the templates offered because the look of the site was very important to me at the time ,unfortunately because of time restrictions and the need to earn some real money and not a dream I have had to shelve all internet projects for a while.

I'm with you on that
I had a cold call from someone wanting to design a site for me the day after I posted here
When I searched for their site - the IS number showed on the bottom of my screen instead of the actual site address
Have no idea what that means but it was enough to put me off contacting them or even looking at their site
